A Week in Maui

A Week in Maui

Where to Stay

Andaz Maui at Wailea Resort – we typically lean towards Hyatt or Hilton properties because of their rewards system! If you’re looking for a hotel-branded credit card, either of these are the way to go! This property is just steps from the beach with multiple pools and a restaurant on site for meals – we typically ate breakfast here because it was included in our room rate for the week.

Things to Do

Maui Kayaks – Carlos was our guide and let me just say there is no one better! He was so knowledgeable and took AWESOME photos for us to buy from him after which was nice so we didn’t have to keep track of our GoPro! He pushed us out on our kayaks and then took us to a couple different spots to let us freely snorkel with sea turtles. One of THE coolest experiences I’ve ever done – it definitely made up for not being able to swim with the turtles in the Maldives because of the weather.

Find a park and watch the sunset – We ordered take out a couple of nights and after we picked up our food we found a park to go to so we could watch the sunset while we ate dinner. We quickly realized we weren’t the only ones doing that but if you don’t have dinner plans and the weather allows, this is a must!

Maui Zip Lines – Could I have picked a closer company to zipline with? Probably. But I don’t regret going up to Kapalua one bit! It was a bit of a drive but the experience was SO worth it. We did their 6 line tour so we grabbed lunch at the little market right next to their office and then headed up the mountain in a van – so not glamorous but the views while ziplining made up for the ride up and down the mountain! It did get a little chilly towards the end of the tour so I’d recommend a long sleeve shirt or light jacket for layers.

Wailea Golf Club – I’m not a huge golfer but my husband wanted to go so I agreed for the views and they did not disappoint! They have two courses – we chose to play the Blue.

Places to Eat

Monkeypod: this spot came highly recommend and for good reason! If you go, get the mai tai (it was my last drink before finding out I was pregnant!) – it was delicious. Their food was good too – we got a burger and pizza.

Manoli’s Pizza Company – this pizza joint is on a golf course so the views aren’t too bad! If you’re looking for a casual dinner spot in Wailea, stop by Manoli’s for lunch or dinner!

Kihei Cafe – if you go anywhere for breakfast/brunch, make this be it! They have a constant line out front for a reason! Their food portions are HUGE and the vibe of their outside seating is the best.

Fat Daddy’s BBQ – originally from Kansas, it takes a lot to impress me with BBQ (for good reason). Fat Daddy’s was pretty good for bbq in Hawaii! We got a few different types of meat and sides to try. It was steadily busy, which is always a good sign – definitely don’t want to go to a restaurant that doesn’t have customers coming in!

Maui Sweet Shoppe – we stopped in this little family owned ice cream shop one night after dinner and I highly recommend it! They have ice cream, Dole Whip, candy and baked goods to choose from.

DUO – did someone say macaroni and cheese? This steakhouse at the Four Seasons had the BEST mac n cheese. We got truffle milk break (delicious), steak, fish, truffle mac n cheese and buttermilk potato puree. It was all so good, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu!

Peace Love Shave Ice – did you go to Hawaii if you didn’t get shaved ice? This spot offers a variety of flavors and is right across the street from the beach. We grabbed dinner, watched the sunset and then stopped here for dessert before heading back to the hotel!

Down the Hatch – Thanks to my dad, we went to DTH while we were in Maui because it was on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives! We had some friends in town overlapping our trip so we picked them up and went to eat. We got the crispy coconut shrimp and chicken and waffles – both very very good! They also have great happy hour specials and adult shaved ice that’s on my list to try next time!

Outrigger Pizza – another Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives spot! Honestly, was less than impressed with their service and the pizza was average – if I’m being honest! It looked like high schoolers were using a pizza oven on a trailer. I’m not sure if we caught them on a bad day or ordered the wrong thing so if we ever go back we may need to try it one more time!
