Landscape Tips & Tricks
I wish I had a before picture from when we first moved in of our backyard – the grass looked awful and needed some serious help! We went back and forth with the pros and cons of keeping real grass and trying to maintain it or putting turf in just the backyard. Here are some of the benefits we found to having artificial grass:
– less water since you’re not having to keep it alive
– a beautiful yard year round that you don’t have to worry about turning brown
– you may save money in the long run on maintenance since it doesn’t take much to keep up with turf
We decided to go for it and are so pleased with the decision we made! After the turf was installed, we had Fallas Landscape come out and add some plants and trees and move some of what we already had to make our backyard look like its own little oasis. They also added some path and up-lighting so it’s not dark back there at night! If you’re in Dallas and in the market for some landscaping, I highly recommend them!
What’s it like having turf with pets?
We have two dogs and it’s so nice to not have to worry about them eating the grass! It’s also very easy to pick up after them because it all sits on top of the turf for easy clean up. When it gets hot in the summer we’ll run the sprinklers for a minute before letting them out so they don’t burn their paws.
What’s the cost of turf?
Ultimately it depends on the kind of turf and the area you’re wanting done. It can be anywhere from $8 to $25 per square foot. There are three different types of turf and we got samples of each before we made a decision.
How long does installation take?
Again, depending on the size of your yard it could take one to two days. Ours took a full day to complete from tearing up the grass that was there and then installing the turf, it was done by that evening.
How long does it last?
On average, turf will last 10 to 15 years but if it’s high quality it could last up to 20 years.
I’m definitely not an expert in turf or landscape but we are very pleased with our decision and the landscape done in our yard and can’t wait for the weather to cool down and the mosquitos to disappear so we can enjoy it!
